In this first post, I want to give you a brief introduction to what dumplings are and why they are so popular and widespread. Dumplings are pieces of dough filled with some stuffing, such as meat, cheese, vegetables, or fruits. They can be boiled, steamed, fried, baked, or cooked in various ways. They can be eaten as a main course, a side dish, a snack, or a dessert. They can be savory or sweet, simple or complex, plain or fancy. They can be enjoyed by themselves or with sauces, soups, salads, or other accompaniments.
But why are dumplings so common in different cuisines? Well, there are many possible reasons. One is that dumplings are a very economical and efficient way of using leftover ingredients. Another is that dumplings are easy to make and store and can be cooked in large batches. A third reason is that dumplings are versatile, adaptable, and can suit different tastes and preferences. A fourth reason is that dumplings are very satisfying and comforting and can evoke feelings of nostalgia and belonging. And a fifth reason is that dumplings are simply delicious and fun to eat!
